My Mohawk Boy!

I was getting ready to cut Matthew's hair so it would be short and cool for summertime, and I decided to play around with it a little bit. I gave my son a mohawk. I was only planning on keeping it that way for like a day or so, but when I was all done and I styled it, it was so dang cute!!! Matthew really liked it too. He thought it made him look 'cool'! :) I just can't get over how cute it is, so I have decided to keep it this way for a little while. He can't do it during the school year so he'll have it for at least the summer!

24 Weeks 4 Days

Last week I was 24 weeks. I feel like I'm getting huge! :) Everything is still going great. Baby is healthy and strong. It kind of scares me though. He's not even Half of his birth weight yet and sometimes he can seriously hurt me already. He has this way of arching his back or something and you can feel it from the outside of my belly. When he does that I can't even move hardly until he switches positions. Last night he did this and Jeff could feel all along his back and he was pushing his back out along my belly. Its really weird. I hope he calms down a little when he gets bigger!
I was a little upset with myself this week. My baby is supposed to be the size of an ear of corn with the husk and everything still on it. When I went to the store I couldn't find one the right size. Its like all the corn they had there were so itty bitty. So I used a ruler instead. I know I'm lame. But yes my baby was 12 inches so it works out.

Father's Day!

Matthew's and my morning started pretty early. We got up early and started getting ready for Jeff. We went to Walmart and got a dozen doughnuts for breakfast and we got Jeff a cheesecake (he's been wanting one for WEEKS). Then we came back home (Kaity was still sleeping) and started coloring some pictures and made a banner. Then we started blowing up balloons. Kaity finally woke up around 9:20-ish (sleepy head) She and Matthew loved these long balloons. They thought they were swords and were sword fighting all morning. Then Kaity colored her pictures for Jeff.

Then around 9:45-ish we heard Jeff get out of bed so the kids wanted to hide from him to surprise him.
 Doesn't he look surprised?
Here's Jeff with his kiddos! Soon to be 3 kiddos! :)
Here is what we made him for Father's Day this year. Its a shirt with the kids hand prints on it (Matthew's are blue and green and Kaity's is pink and purple) Then the front says 'World's Best Dad -- Hands Down'
Then the back just says 2011. I was debating whether or not to do a belly print so our baby could be involved, but I voted not to! :)
Happy Father's Day Jeff! We love you!!

Duck Pond

On Father's Day we went for a nice walk around the park with the ducks. Of course we brought a bunch of bread to feed the ducks. The kids have so much fun here because the ducks come right up to you and eat the bread right from your hand. Its pretty fun for them.

Sprinklers

Matthew had a lot of fun last week running through the sprinklers at our apartment. Kaity didn't want to get wet except for her hands. She's such a girlie girl. Matthew had a blast though! I don't know what he's doing with the pieces of cardboard though. Whatever floats your boat. :)

Here you can see Kaity watching from a safe distance. :)
I had to add this picture. Kaity has learned how to make a heart with her hands. She does it all the time. Its super cute. She'll hold her hands up into a heart and say 'I love you'! Makes your heart melt! :)

Faux Chenille Baby Blanket

I have made this AMAZING baby blanket! I am so proud of myself for doing it! I saw a picture of a blanket like this and I knew I had to make one for myself! I followed the tutorial over at Made. She has great step-by-step directions. It wasn't necessarily hard, just VERY time consuming, but very very worth it. It turned out so perfect and soft. The part that took me the longest was sewing all the little rows. That literally took me months (off and on). Then the cutting I did in a day. Then after all that, the binding was a breeze!
Here's a close up of the front of the blanket
So here's what you do! You get 4-5 pieces of fabric. I used 4. One fabric should be printed with some kind of design and the others should be mostly solid. You should use 100% cotton for this project because it frays so nicely. Then you need to put all the fabrics together to be sewn. I used some temporary adhesive spray and then safety pinned it in a bunch of places, but no matter what you do, it will still move a bit.
Then you sew all these wonderful rows over and over and over again. I sewed the rows every 1/2 inch! The end result is slightly different with different size rows.
Then after all your hard work of sewing the rows, then its time to cut all the rows! You need to cut all solid fabrics but do NOT cut the printed pattern! I was so nervous the whole time that I would accidentally cut a hole in the back, but I didn't! YAY!

Then when you are all done with the sewing and the cutting then you trim the edges and the lady over at Made used a plate and rounded the corners. I liked the square look so I left it. Then you pin on the binding. I had to use 2 packages of 3 yard bias tape for mine. Then you sew it on!

Then the fun part. When you are all done with it, You throw it in the washing machine and wash and dry it. When it comes out of the dryer the fabric will have frayed nicely where you cut it and gotten soft! If you want it a little more frayed then just wash and dry it again!
I absolutely LOVE this blanket! But I don't think I will ever get around to making another one! :)

Last Day of Kindergarten

Today was Matthew's very last day of kindergarten. Yesterday was supposed to be his last day, but to make up for a snow day they had to go one day longer. So today was just a giant free day. When I first got to his school, all classes were outside playing. It took me forever to find him. They had all kinds of games and stuff set up. I found him trying to blow a ball from one cup into another one.
Then Matthew wanted to go to this station were you sit in a big circle and someone walks around and squeezes water from a sponge onto your head. Wierd, I know! Kaity got one drop on her and thought I'm out of here and turned around and took off running for the playground.
Then the bell rang and Matthew was trying to make sure that Kaity stood perfectly in line. She wasn't liking it too much.
Here's Matthew sitting next to one of his friends, Holly, while they got to eat banana splits.

Then everyone got to blow bubbles and color with chalk and just play and do whatever!

Good Job Matthew! 1st Grade Here We Come!!!

Matthew's 6th Birthday!

Well, its official! My baby boy is 6 years old! I can't believe that I've been a mom for that long! :) Matthew is getting so big and he makes me laugh out loud every day because he is such a funny kid. He's got a great sense of humor and knows how to have fun! I love him so much!
This year we had his party at a park and I let him invite some of his friends from school. Of course, Holly and Brroke were invited and then Meagan and Paul. He's such a ladies man! :)
I asked Matthew if he wanted me to make him a cake or if he wanted one from Walmart. Of course he chose a Walmart cake. Especially after he saw this 'How to Train Your Dragon' cake!

It was so windy, I had to relight the candles 3 times!

 Livia and Sydney also came!
He got all kinds of great gifts. Mostly cars!
Good ol' Aunt Cami put this awesome red stuff in the gift bag and of course all the girls had to put it on their heads! It was very messy but fun!

Here he is waiting for his last present...
His first big boys bike! He LOVES it!
Jeff was just as excited as Matthew was! :)

Matthew had some road kits already and he plays with them EVERY day and they have started to break. You can't find these toys in stores anymore. Me and Jeff finally found some online and got him two more kits! So now he can make his road really big! So its a good thing he got cars for his birthday!
Happy Birthday Big Boy!!
