Matthew's Surgery Again!

Well, the doctors told us to watch out for day number 7 after his surgery! So I knew it was going to be a bad day, but not this bad! They say that day 6 or 7 is when the scabs fall off from his tonsillectomy, so they said to watch out for bleeding! Well, it all started at about 2:30 in the morning! He woke up coughing and kind of wimpering! I went up there and I didn't see anything. So I gave him a drink of water and tried to get him to go back to sleep! He woke up again at 4:00 and i noticed he was bleeding a lot! I'll save you some of the gruesome details, lets just say he lost a LOT of blood!
I raced him to the hospital and they gave him an I.V. and told me that he would have to be put back to sleep and then cauterize his blood vessels to stop the bleeding! The bad part was that a throat specialist has to do it! The closest throat specialist is in Spokane! :( So they called in an ambulance from Lewiston! Here is a picture of Matthew in the Ambulance! It was the time he finally cheered up! He loved riding in the ambulance! They even gave him that teddy bear! He held on to it the whole time we were in the hospital!
After we got to the hospital they showed us to our room and then he got shipped off to surgery! It was very sad, but he wasn't quite as scared because he's already gone through it! He was scared, but he seemed to be a little better about it! How he is in this picture is how he was the whole time! He insisted on laying on me the whole time! I loved the cuddling!
We ended up having to stay the night at the hospital! And remember I left in a rush at 4 in the morning! So of course I had nothing with me! No change of clothes or toothbrush or anything! :( They had to give him his I.V. through his arm behind his elbow so he wasn't able to bend his arm at all, which got very annoying! They had to put a kind of brace an his arm to keep it still! He HATED it! In this picture we got to take off the brace and he's propping his arm up on his teddy bear! And we finally got him to eat something! A banana!

So we're finally home and he's acting pretty normal again! Still in pain and has to eat a lot of popsicles and stuff! But they say that once you cauterize, then you don't have to do it again! So he should be getting better now! Keep him in your prayers!

Oh my laws, Heather. That's AWFUL! Much worse than you were bracing for on that seventh day. I'm so glad everything worked out OK and you're home now and things are getting better. That's pretty dramatic stuff -- a 90 minute ride in an ambulance is something most of us will never experience.

Hang in there. We're still praying for you.

I am so glad that Matthew is doing well, and I hope that both of you are doing o.k. You all didn't tell me about the ambulance ride--oh! my goodness--Matthew will have at least one good memory from the ordeal. Matthew grandma loves you and I am so glad that you are home and doing better.
